Missing Nurses: Is it a cause for concern or just a coincidence?
It isn’t quite long when the story of a missing nurse took centre stage on social media trends and some traditional media outlets. Lots of nurses shared the story on their social media handles to help save their colleague from the blind spot of the masses while many bloggers tore the issue from different angles to capture the attention of their readers.
Her name is Vera Asamoah and according to the notice circulating on social media, she was last seen on Friday March 26, 2021 around Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Till date, nothing fruitful seem to have come out from the trend.
As if that was not enough to put some fear in the members of the noble profession, another similar incidence seemed to have happened and making rounds on social media. The name of this new nurse is Bernadette Onai, a worker at Kyebi Government Hospital. According to the notice, she was last seen on April 6th, 2021.
Are these two cases related, or it is just a mere coincidence that two nurses have been reported missing within a period of two weeks? Should nurses begin to worry about their safety in this country?
I know these and many other questions will be running through the head of many nurses in Ghana now. However, it is my hope that state agencies responsible for internal security will dive to the root cause of this issue, save our missing nurses, and prevent future occurrence.
And to the rest of us nurses, let be careful with the way we share our personal and professional life on social media. It is best we go to work in mufti(s) and not in our uniforms.
